I am not a Sommelier, but I recognized a balanced wine. Not too sweet. Not at all tannic. Just smooth from the first taste to the finish. This is the entire portfolio: Cabernet Franc, Table Red, Pinot Noir, Lemberger and Syrah: I cannot emphasize “smooth” enough. As a red wine aficionado, Element Winery produces wines like those you’d expect from Italy, France or Napa Valley. These take the Finger Lakes to a new galaxy when it comes to red wine. If you are lucky enough to see Element Winery on the menu, order it. You will forever think differently about New York red wines. I can’t wait to try the next one!
If you like white wines, you are not left out. Element has a superb Riesling that compares in quality to a Dr. Konstantin Frank semi-dry, a Finger Lakes wine many are familiar with.
Inside Secret: Christopher Bates, Sommelier and Master Winemaker for Element Winery will be launching a nano-brewery in Geneva focused on sour beers- The Culture House with an on-site restaurant FLX Table Featuring farm to table cuisine. Christopher Bates is a culinary instructor at the International Culinary Center and consultant to businesses across the country. He is working on initiatives to assist other New York Winemakers to launch farm wineries affordably. He is dedicated to the industry at every level and his passion shows in his food and wine.
